On yesterday´s Easter Monday the annual Easter Fourball tournament took place on Stolpe´s Westcourse. Team La Gira Golf played its inaugural competition and won it with a spectacular 54 net (18 under par). Gary and Mike dealt best with the windy conditions, mainly using Mike´s long wood shots and Gary´s precise iron play. Together they averaged 1.74 putts per green and won their net class by three strokes ahead of the next best team. This was the perfect ignition and preparation for the upcoming first round of the "twoplay Matchplay Series" in May.

So, Easter is about to hit us with temperatures still around freezing point and I played two tournaments so far. My first start this year was the Wednesdays´ series "Herrengolf" event at Stolpe where I finished T7 after a +6 round and 33 net stableford points. A highlight on this event surely was my first ever eagle played on a par 5. On the 467 yds long #5 hole on the Westcourse I hit a 286 yds drive, followed by a 186 yds iron 3 shot into the green, leaving the ball about 39 feet from the pin and then putted the ball uphill, downhill, to the left and into the hole! Of course I put that ball into my collectibles box and it will never be played again.

After 4 weeks into the new year, I only managed to get out on the course once so far, since the temperatures and weather conditions didn´t allow any proper practice yet. But still, I will start in two tournaments in February, kicking off the 2012 season with 2 rounds on the "Platz am Fließ" at Golfresort Berlin Pankow. I couldn´t master this course so far, a rough 66 net (+6) stands there after my tournament at the end of last year, so I give myself two more chances to handle the narrow course with its tiny greens. Also I´ve registered my newly formed "Team LA GIRA Golf" for the 2012 "twoplay" matchplay series presented by GOLFfriends.com which will be starting with round 1 in May. My athletic trainer and flight partner Gary Douglas will join me and we both hope that we will ship in some good results. Both of us signed with BGC Stolper Heide now and with top teaching pro Heinz Peter Thül we also have one of the best swing trainers around, since he signed with BGC Stolper Heide as well. So, things are set to be done, let´s get it on...

It's hard to believe 2011 is almost over, and it was sure nice to get a victory in my first tournament season after a break of more than eleven years. I dedicated this win to my grandpa Hans who had died just one day before the tournament when we were celebrating my mother´s birthday. After eleven tournaments in 2011, I decided not to play in December in order to cure out all those little injuries which came along the year. With a total of nine top ten finishes I can consider it a good season with a lot of room towards the top. 2012 will bring more tournaments, more chances and more fun since I will have my new weapon in the bag, my new Nike SQ MachSpeed fairway wood 5 surely will add a little pop to my game. Goals for 2012 are to win a tournament again, get a good finish at the Taylor Made Open in June, play in fourball/foursome competitions with my trainer Gary and finish the year in DGV HCP Class 4 (18.5 - 26.4). For so long I´d like to wish everyone a great start into the new year, stay healthy and always keep striving for your goals...
